Detox Water Benefits and Recipes
We all know how important it is to drink lots of water daily. The daily standard is to drink at least 8 cups. When I started working out... that 8 cups was bumped up to one gallon. If you, like many people, don’t like to drink water or simply want to add some flair to it, then detox water could be a good place to start. It provides flavor and nutrients to otherwise plain water.
Growing up, I had always seen lemon wedges dropped into water at restaurants. I thought it was mainly for a look or just something bourgeois people did. As I got older, lemon water became more of an acquired taste for me, hold the ice though please!!! As I’ve become more health conscious, I’ve learned some of the many benefits of adding fruit and herbs to water. I would like to share some of them with you today:
Great Source for Antioxidants - Antioxidants protect your cells against the effects of free radicals in the body.
Aides in Digestion - Many of the fruits and herbs will naturally flush toxins from the body.
Aides in Weight Loss - Drinking water 30 minutes before each meal will actually help you eat less because you’ll feel full quicker. Plus the calories are minimal.
Boost your Immune System - The nutrient boost would come from the vitamin C rich fruit you infuse your water with. Fruits rich in vitamin C are limes, lemons, oranges, pineapple, and strawberries.
Beautifies Skin - Any good aesthetician would tell you how important water consumption is for beautiful and healthy skin. Your skin is a reflection of what you eat and drink daily. Adding nutrients will only boost this.
Maintains Blood Pressure - Your body naturally retains sodium when not enough water is being consumed. Staying hydrated counteracts this.
Boost Metabolism - Drinking detox water on an empty stomach first thing in the morning gets the body going.
Relieves Dehydration - Most of us don’t drink enough water so adding some pizazz to it should help with consumption.
Improved Mood - Fruits and veggies high in B vitamins and vitamin C are known to boost your energy and ease feelings of anxiety.
Boost Liver Function - the livers main function is to remove toxins from the body. Water simply helps it in doing what it normally does. Dehydration counteracts this and can lead to decreased function.
